A Note from Susan:

Hello everyone! I am so excited to co-create your preferred stories with you.

I was born and raised in the great state of Maine and have traveled around the globe for many years thereafter. A childhood in Maine gave me such an appreciation for the beauty in nature. It also taught me how to slow down and notice what’s around me. It took a period in my life to learn mindfulness so that I could come upon realization of this need for slowing down. My hope is that this life lesson will bring a sense of patience and softness to the therapy room.

Dr. Sanni Paljakki, a published and renowned Narrative therapist, expresses so succinctly what I hope to offer the people I will work with therapeutically:

My hope is to take an “affectionate notice of [your] world.”

I like to take a compassionate and loving approach to therapy so that you may feel the weight of life melt off you, even if it’s only during session. I hope to work with you in a way that helps you find a sense of freedom and richness in life. I hope to find the moments in your story where you resisted injustices in your life so that you may feel a sense of strength and agency in your body. Perhaps it is bold of me to share these ideas, but what I believe to be the core of Narrative therapy, is a sense of hope.

As a Marriage and Family Therapy Trainee, I will be navigating the ways of being creative with my clients. Perhaps painting, poems, drawing, writing letters, yoga or any other means of creativity that you have ideas about. I look forward to collaborating on a re-authoring of your story in a way that feels safe and true to you.

I appreciate you reading my story.

Warmly,
Susan
